MICUP” refers to the Mokelumne River Integrated Conjunctive Use Project.  MICUP is a coordinated effort between San Joaquin County, North San Joaquin Water Conservation District, Stockton East Water District and the City of Stockton to get a new water right to divert more water from the Mokelumne River in wetter years for use in our area.  These agencies recently released the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the Project and are processing the water right application with the State Water Board.  If the application is approved, MICUP could bring up to 158,000 acre-feet of new water supply to our area in very wet years, and an average of 60,000 acre-feet of new supplies over the long-term. North San Joaquin Water Conservation District plans to use at least 40% of the MICUP supplies for groundwater recharge to offset current overdraft pumping.  Pursuing the new MICUP water supply is a high priority for the NSJWCD Board of Directors and is funded by landowner groundwater charges.
